Having a morning self-care routine is probably one of the best things you can do for yourself. While it does take some time and planning, having a morning routine can prepare you and help you gain your momentum and stamina for the day.
Self care is not being selfish. It is a way of showing compassion to ourselves. It is asking ourselves “Are you okay? What do you need to do for you?”
Sometimes we get caught up in the routine of our daily habits and we forget to take time for ourselves. We end up piling massive amounts of stress on ourselves and feel like we have no time, but with a morning self care routine it will keep you stress-free from the start of your day forward.
And the best part, it will end up turning into a habit that you just do and don’t even think about. You don’t have to think about what you will do each morning. You have a routine to start your day that, when compounded over time will end up showing you great results with consistency.
Here are some simple morning self care routines that I like to do daily to go into the day feeling great.
Breathe
When you wake up in the morning, take notice of your breath. Breathe deeply.
Studies show that breathing deeply can have a number of health benefits including:
- improves bloodflow
- improves posture
- reduces inflamation
- detoxifies the body
- improves digestion
- and more…

Reflection
It is important to take time for reflection. Whether this means reflecting in thought, or prayer, or a self-reflection.
Here are 5 Powerful Reasons to Make Reflection a Daily Habit and How To Do It
Stretch
Stretching has been linked to all sorts of health benefits. A good stretch in the morning can get your body limber for the day.
I personally prefer a type of pilates workout as it is a mix of strengthening and stretching. It’s also good for relieving stress and anxiety. If you are interested in pilates too, join a group of likeminded people.
Making the Bed
Studies show that making the bed right after you get out of it will enable you to more easily move on through your morning and not crawl back in bed.
This is a productivity hack for me. If I don’t climb back into bed in the morning, I will find something else more productive to do.
Brushing Teeth
Getting all that morning breathe out will do you wonders. Gargle with mouthwash to make sure you get rid of all those nasty overnight germs.
Water
Water is our most important resource. Drinking a bottle of water immediately after waking up can help improve a lot of health issues and ailments.
Yoga
Yoga is a focus on the core. While in meditation you stretch your body improving the muscles and strengthening the core.
I do a mix of yoga poses in the morning and try to change them up weekly. Just a quick 15 minute morning yoga routine like this one from FittyFoodies.com is all you need to make sure your body is strenthened each morning.
Cardio
Get your heart pumping in the morning and you will be burning weight all day. As well you should spend another 15 minutes with this morning workout routine from Darebee.com to get the most out of your time.
Shower
Steaming hot water is the best start to any day! Enough said.
Tea
There is just something about having tea in the morning. It just starts the day on a good note.
The orange green tea is the best.
Write
Think about how you feel at night when your head is just overfilled with all the BS of the day and all you want to do is go to sleep. Very unpleasant.
That is why writing in the morning is most creative, effective, and focused. When you first wake up your mind is fresh, free of worry, and has the ability to focus much better.
Write about anything, creative writing for 15 minutes.
Use a journal to record all your morning musings.

Planning
When you plan your day in the morning, you are way more likely to get things done during the day. Here are a few things you can plan in the morning.
Your Big 3 – Writing down the top three things you need to do today.
Creating challenges for yourself in the morning. For this there is a pretty cool journal called The Morning Sidekick Journal where you can document goals and challenges for the day helping you make progress and become focused.
Writing down the people you need to reach out to today. Who needs to get a call from you? An email from you? Who do you want to just reach out and say hello to today?
Breakfast
The most important meal of the day. I make sure that if I have at least one home cooked meal in the day that breakfast is it. I like to make this meal my most high protein low carb meal of the day. Why? Because it is easy. Some eggs, bacon, and sausage are nothing but protein.
Make-up
Making yourself more confident by looking good is no crime.
Affirmations
If you don’t tell the universe what you want, who will? And how will it know? Speak what you want into existence and the universe will return it tenfold.
Start out with some simple affirmations:
- I will have a productive day
- I have everything I need for success
And my personal favorite…
- Money comes easily and frequently
